I'm hoping and praying that the Dive Rite Day becomes a regular event at the quarry because Britt has a 20 yr. lease by then!!!

Arrived to find the quarry packed with busy folks so we parked at the mouth of the old road (now the shallows). We just did a quarry shore dive. Britt had some old rug remnants there for folks to walk out on and not muck up. We added one piece because I was still diving with one fin and I really didn't want to hurt my bare foot. The others entering there appreciate it as well.
1st dive: we went to the training platform that I didn't even know was the in the shallows. then from there we went to the bridge and observatory, the simulator and went in it, then the rocket to the Alabama Lady with a few boats between, like the Ol' Roy. Back to wall near the shallows to do our free safety stop then back over the wall and shallows to the training platform. A great Dive! during the surface interval we checked out the Dive Rite Booth that was set up. They had side mount rigging's for tanks and would let you try them out. Also Re breathers for $25.00 you could rent and try out. Buzz, Rick , Lisa and Myself talked to them but didn't try any of the stuff out. We spotted our pals from Dive Sports and went over to visit with them. We just love Eric and JT! 2ND Dive: We headed to the Alabama Lady....while at the Lady I noticed Lisa was still looking for Rick..she told me she was going back for Rick. I gave her the OK..Buzz was under the lady ..so when he returned to me we waited a few then we started back for them...some how we missed paths..they must have gone on to the platform or the square thingy as planned. Since Buzz had dipped below 30 we did a safety and surfaced we did not see them..so we went on assuming they were OK. As we went to the north Platform I think they went below us to the south platform, he-he. we had stayed shallow knowing they were low on air to look for them. we saw bubbles when we surfaced on the north dock, we laughed and went down to surprise them and yep it was them at the Alabama Lady. Even with the mix up..it was a fun dive...Buzz and I knew they had little air and would have to cut their dive short..we then turn northeast and followed the wall and went to the square thingy. and a tent frame. checked out a few more fish and such and then made our way back under both crowded docks to the Alabama Lady and stopped the to do our safety stop. Where I fell asleep..how nice!! then back to the shallow dock to finish our dive. A great day of diving. |

I was taught that O2 is good for every underwater injury. Have a cut, apply O2. Ok that is an exaggeration but you get my point.

Thanks Rick.
I am the lucky one in the relationship. She kept up with us pretty easily with one fin. Perhaps we should let her dive with no fins and see how she does. Buzz ![]() |

Britt posted this on Scubaboard:
--- I got the official news yesterday about the status of the quarry, we will be closing for September. Our last dive day for this year will be August 30th. The Water Board will begin testing their systems on September 1st and they will have to run the tests through the month. They will not be draining the quarry, they will drop the water level about 15-20 feet from its current depth. If the tests go good for them, they can use the water during peak times. If the tests go bad, they will try to adjust the methods to get better results and possibly try again. If that doesn’t work, they will not be able to use the quarry and there has been conversations about a long term lease if that happens. Once they get the line to the river, they will not need the quarry and in that event, they have mentioned a long term lease. The Water Board is certainly working with us and have made every effort to take care of the divers so please don’t get upset with the Water Board about this. I heard rumors that it might happen but didn’t expect it to happen during dive season. We have already discussed making arrangements for next year’s dive season and they are willing to adjust when and where they can for us to make it happen if possible. We all knew this was coming, but just didn’t want it to. --- The Dive Rite Tech Tour is still on for the 21st and 22nd of August. Please make arrangements to come out for that. It is going to be a great weekend and everyone should have lots of fun and get some great dives in. Rebreathers, drysuits, and everything else Dive Rite will be there for you to try. --- Dive Sports is hosting another Night Dive and Cook Out on the 19th of August. Get in touch with Phil, Brad, or Jonathan and get added to that list. --- We have a trip in the works for September since the quarry is closing. Do you like wrecks? How about a trip to North Carolina for some of the best wreck diving in the USA. We are getting everything in place for a weekend of Wreck diving and on the return trip stopping by the Cooper River for some Megalodon Teeth. This trip is planned for the 11th through the 13th of September. Let us know if you want to go due to the quarry being closed early this year. --- The quarry is still open Friday through Monday until August 30th so get in and dive as much as possible this year. Please feel free to call if you have questions that I didn’t cover in this email. --- Get out and go dive, be safe and enjoy yourself. __________________ Britt Clark IT Staff Instructor Instructor Trainer SDI/TDI/ERDI |
